GUIDE

Innoshima Amenity Park: Highlights and How to Visit

What to see and how to get around, with photos

Innoshima Amenity Park is a park we recommend as a rest stop for cyclists on the Shimanami Kaido. Entry is free, and it has bike racks, vending machines and a covered rest area. From Shimanami Beach in the park you can see the Innoshima Bridge.

We stopped here by bike on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. It was sunny, and this article is based on what we checked that day.

It was a weekday around midday, and only a few people were on the beach. We did, however, see many cyclists from overseas.

Innoshima Amenity Park and Shimanami Beach highlights

On the sea side of the park is Shimanami Beach, a swimming beach. The sand curves in an arc with hills behind it. At midday in October when we visited, there were almost no waves, and fine ripples were left in the sand at the water's edge.

Stand on the beach and look to the right: the main tower of the Innoshima Bridge appears beyond the headland. From here you can look across the sea at the bridge you just crossed. For a souvenir photo of your ride, this beach is the place.

The Innoshima Bridge is at the back right of the headland. On a clear day even the main tower shows clearly.

From the end of the beach, a jetty walkway runs out to sea. The surface is flat, with railings on both sides. Walk to the end and you can see cargo ships passing and the surrounding islands straight ahead.

Innoshima Amenity Park bike racks and rest area (for cyclists)

We found two bike racks in Innoshima Amenity Park on our visit.

The first is just inside the walkway from the park entrance, with a sign reading "bicycle shed." The second is in front of a wooden "BICYCLE PARKING" sign along the fence.

A smaller rack. Use it as a backup when the first one is full.

The racks have no roof. On rainy days, a saddle cover is a good idea. Bring your own cable lock.

In the park is a covered rest area with a sign reading "Amenity Park Community Building." Tables are lined up under the roof, and there were two drink vending machines beside the building. In summer you can get out of the sun and drink.

Barbecues and similar activities are prohibited under the roof of the community building. The rules are posted on a sign on site, so read it before using the space.

A flat walkway with bollards runs from the park entrance to the beach. There are almost no steps, even walking with your bike.

The cafe at Innoshima Amenity Park: Nagisa no Koban SEABRIDGE

Inside the park is the book cafe Nagisa no Koban SEABRIDGE. According to a September 2023 article on Rurubu&more, you can freely read about 950 picture books and illustrated guides. It is open 10:00–17:00 and closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The same article lists green curry at 1,350 yen and cream soda at 750 yen each. These are 2023 prices, so check the current prices at the cafe.

October 7, when we visited, was a Wednesday, a regular closing day. If you want to rest at the cafe, plan around Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Play equipment and lawn at Innoshima Amenity Park (for families)

Behind the beach is large lighthouse-shaped play equipment with several slides, where children can play for a long time. Benches and tables are lined up beside it.

Beyond the play equipment is a wide lawn. You can eat a packed lunch at tables in the shade. On a hill at the edge of the lawn stands a white dinosaur statue.

Things to know at Innoshima Amenity Park

Swimming at Shimanami Beach is allowed only during the set season. The opening period changes each year, so if you plan to swim, check before you go.

Toilets and showers: we did not check their locations on this visit. If you need them for swimming or changing after a ride, ask the contact number in advance.

Jetty and beach: do not ride your bike onto them. The jetty walkway is narrow and you pass people on foot. On the beach, tires sink into the sand.

Shade on the beach: there is almost none. In summer, rest in the rest area or under the trees on the lawn.

Combining Innoshima Amenity Park with nearby spots

Hassakuya (hassaku daifuku) is about 500 m from the park in a straight line. You can buy Innoshima's famous hassaku daifuku and eat it in the park's community building.

If you ride south on Innoshima, Innoshima Flower Center and Mt. Shirataki are on the same island. For the overall Shimanami route and how to ride it, see the Shimanami Kaido cycling guide and the Innoshima cycling guide.
